A Nunc Pro Tunc (NPT) request is a way to ask the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to forgive a late filing to change or extend nonimmigrant status. Normally, such requests must be filed before the current status expires, but if the filing is late due to extenuating circumstances, the USCIS may approve it on a discretionary basis.

To qualify, the applicant must show that the delay was due to extraordinary circumstances, that they haven’t violated their nonimmigrant status, they remain a bona fide nonimmigrant, and they’re not in deportation proceedings.
