When the activity or event changes, even if the O-1 petition extension is with the same employer, officers may grant an extension of stay for the period required to accomplish the new event or activity, not to exceed three years. For example, if you are continuing in a different phase or trial for the same research or if you are working on an entirely new project or product for the same company, you may be eligible for an O-1 extension of up to 3 years.
